ABC’s unmitigated gall

Subject: Good riddance, WABC

It’s the epitome of greed to demand millions of dollars from cable customers for something you give away for free over the air. Have you no shame?

With most Americans struggling just to make ends meet, you and your stockholders get no pity from us. There’s no way Cablevision can absorb $40 million, so your “ransom” will be passed right along to me, and every other Cablevision customer. Worse, if you succeed, CBS, NBC and Fox will likely follow suit, and pretty soon we’ll be paying twice as much for cable TV, while getting nothing extra in return.

Ad revenues are down? Tough darts. We’re in a recession, they’re down everywhere. But you have no right to saddle us, your viewers, with the cost of your dying business model. The world is changing; offer us something we want to watch, and we’ll gladly pay for it. Instead you have a history of cancelling the few quality shows you put on the air, before they have a chance to find an audience. “Eli Stone”, “Life on Mars”, “Pushing Daisies” were all cancelled too soon, to make room for, what, garbage like “Better Off Ted” and “Cougartown”?

With “Lost” ending this season, I have absolutely ZERO reason to continue to watch your lame programming. So regardless whether you reach an agreement with Cablevision, my family won’t miss WABC one bit.

Sincerely,
A former WABC viewer
